Chronic Pain — Hot Links 12/11/18
I’ve been away from my blog for a while. It wasn’t a planned break, just the result of an unusually busy time colliding with holiday trips and such. Anyway, I hope that you had a good Thanksgiving and are ready for Christmas…oh, and 2019 is around the corner!
But I’ve been doing some reading and I want to share with you. Here are some of the latest links relevant to chronic pain and faith:
- https://calledtowatch.com/index.php/2018/02/01/what-ive-been-reading-january/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost This link comes from “Called to Watch” is a summary of what Emily has been reading dating back to January of this year. I like reading Emily’s blog because she offers a unique perspective as one who watches those close to her suffer with chronic pain as opposed to having chronic pain herself.
- Here’s a post about seeking deeper comfort than the trite responses of “everything will be okay” and their ilk. This is a good one. I hope you read it.
“That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.” https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/what-if-i-never-get-better - This next one doesn’t involve faith but is a story of chronic pain and all such stories are valuable. This is especially interesting if you have SI join problems. You can learn a few things, but is a long read.
“Chronic pain, I am discovering, is tiring, draining, domineering: it absorbs all your energy and focus; it drives other thoughts from your head.” https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/dec/06/a-crunch-a-rip-pain-spread-like-a-stain-my-lifetime-of-back-trouble?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other - Here’s a practical one for managing the holidays with chronic pain: http://www.myseveralworlds.com/2018/12/02/surviving-the-holidays-with-chronic-illness/
- We will close this where we started with another post from Emily. This one is a really good one in which she contemplated whether Jesus can sympathize with those in chronic pain. https://calledtowatch.com/index.php/2017/07/03/can-jesus-really-sympathise/?utm_source=ReviveOldPost&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ReviveOldPost
